Springboro soccer traveled to Fairmont for a GWOC battle that ended up being a 4-3 win in the last seconds of the match. Fairmont came on on fire with a lot of pressure and dangerous scoring opportunities that the Panthers stifled through the first half. Springboro was able to get on the board first with 6' left in the half with a shot by Grant Perry which was deflected and tucked away by Julian Rowlands to put Springboro up 1-0 at half. The Panthers flipped the script at the beginning of the second half pressing Fairmont and creating some good chances but couldn't find the back of the net. With 28' left to play, Fairmont found their first goal on a breakaway that Springboro couldn't clean up to level the match at 1-1. At the 22' left to play mark, Rowen Arnold created a window of opportunity with some master class ball work and buried a shot to put Springboro up 2-1. That lead was short lived as Fairmont was awarded a penalty kick less than 30 seconds later which was converted and again leveled the match at 2-2. With 6' to play, Fairmont took their first lead of the game at 3-2. The Panthers kept pushing for the equalizer and found it with 1:45 to play in the game with Ben Page found Rowen Arnold from a long throw in to put the match at 3-3. With 45 seconds left in the match, Grant Perry gets fouled from behind just outside Fairmont's penalty area which resulted in a caution to the Fairmont player and stopped the clock. On the ensuing free kick, Rowen Arnold buried the ball in the back of the net to complete the hattrick and put the Springboro up 4-3. Josh Gandee had an incredible night with 8 saves in the match. This was a big win for the battle of Dayton and HUGE thank you to the Blue Crew for your support!! You all were amazing! The Panthers improve to 5-1-0 (2-0-0 in GWOC) on the season and move forward to play Olentangy Liberty at Wade Field on Saturday, September 6th at 1:30p.
