In a tightly contested GWOC conference showdown, the Springboro Panthers dropped their first loss of the season at the hands the Fairmont Firebirds. The match was a defensive battle from start to finish, with both teams struggling to find offensive momentum in the first half. The half ended in a scoreless draw, setting the stage for a tense second half.
Fairmont broke the deadlock at the 35:20 mark with a well-placed corner kick, giving them a 1-0 lead. As the clock wound down, a foul at the top of the box with just 2:21 remaining gave Fairmont a free kick opportunity. They capitalized, extending their lead to 2-0 and sealing the win.
Springboro will look to bounce back in another GWOC conference matchup on September 10th, when they travel to face Miamisburg. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
