The Springboro Lady Panthers wrapped up their regular season on a strong note Saturday afternoon, securing a 1-0 road victory against the Lakota West Firebirds. The win brings their final regular season record to 14-2-1, including nine shutouts.
Lakota West adopted a defensive posture for much of the match, at times placing as many as ten players behind the ball to slow Springboro’s attack. Despite the compact defensive setup, the Lady Panthers controlled possession throughout the first half, patiently working to create scoring chances.
Their persistence paid off early in the second half. Roughly nine minutes in, Poppy Wakefield won a 50/50 ball off a Lakota West defender and played it forward to Ava Whit. Whit took advantage of the space and launched a shot from 20 yards out, sailing it over the goalkeeper to give Springboro the lead.
Goalkeepers Susan Schaff and Charlotte Fry combined efforts to preserve the shutout, keeping Lakota West off the scoreboard and securing the Panthers’ ninth clean sheet of the season.
With the regular season now complete, Springboro turns its attention to the postseason. The Lady Panthers will host the Wayne Warriors in the District Semi-Final at Ralph Wade Field on Monday, October 20th. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
