With the GWOC championship hanging in the balance, the Lady Panthers battled Centerville to a 1-1 draw in another tightly contested matchup between two programs that have become very familiar with playing meaningful games against one another.
As expected, neither side gave the other much room.
Centerville eventually broke through late in the first half, putting one on the board and went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
The second half continued the battle from the Lady Panthers as they searched for the equalizer against a Centerville team trying to close out the conference championship. And with time running out, Springboro finally found it.
In the final three minutes, seniors Baylee Cumbow and Macy Gill combined for the biggest moment of the night. Cumbow stole the ball from a Centerville player, and Gill picked it up, found space and buried the equalizer from 60 feet out into the upper corner, pulling the Panthers even at 1-1.
Charlotte Fry delivered a tremendous performance in goal, making several key saves and denying Centerville on multiple chances to keep the Lady Panthers in the match.
While the goal wouldn't change the outcome of the GWOC championship race, it ensured that Springboro wouldn't go quietly and provided another memorable moment in what has become one of the area's most competitive girls’ soccer rivalries.
The 1-1 draw also means the Lady Panthers completed conference play unbeaten at 5-0-2, an accomplishment that speaks to the consistency of the group throughout their GWOC schedule.
The Lady Panthers now turn their attention to one final regular-season challenge as they welcome Lakota West to Wade Field on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, at 5 p.m. before turning their attention to postseason play.
