The Springboro Lady Panthers returned home Saturday morning to face a strong Olentangy Orange girls soccer team in a competitive non-conference matchup that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Olentangy Orange struck first, finding the back of the net a little more than eight minutes into the match to take an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Panthers responded by settling into the game and creating offensive opportunities of their own.
With just 11 minutes remaining in the opening half, Springboro found the equalizer. Aubrey Harris scored the tying goal off a well-placed assist from Kylie Bell, sending the teams into halftime deadlocked at 1-1.
The second half turned into a defensive battle as both teams tightened up on the back line. Springboro and Olentangy Orange each generated several corner kick opportunities, but neither side could break through. Strong defensive play, key saves, and disciplined team defending kept the score unchanged throughout the final 40 minutes.
When the final whistle sounded, the two teams remained even at 1-1, earning each side a hard-fought draw in a closely contested match.
The Lady Panthers will return to action on Wednesday, September 16, when they host Miamisburg at Wade Field in a GWOC Conference game. The evening will also serve as Senior Night, with Springboro honoring its senior student-athletes prior to kickoff.
Fans are encouraged to come out and celebrate the seniors before the match. Senior recognition ceremonies will begin before the 7:15 p.m. kickoff.
